I agree, regex are difficult to understand when you’re just starting out and it doesn’t help that they look so odd. With a little practice though, they aren’t so bad and they are a very powerful mini-language for parsing text.

Good point about the blog post being a crucial data science skill! Being able to communicate your work is nearly as important as being able to do the work in the first place.
