I wouldn’t consider humans’ tendency to seek patterns as a complete flaw. This would have served us well for most of our evolutionary past. As Daniel Kahneman points out in his masterpiece Thinking, Fast and Slow, we developed many heuristics (rules of thumb) that were invaluable to our ancestors but are not as helpful in the modern world.

For most of our history, making fast decisions and drawing conclusions unconsciously would have been a significant benefit. Now, we are faced with choices requiring processing more information than our ancestors would have ever encountered over their entire life! The challenge of modern life is figuring out where these instincts are not appropriate and modifying our behavior accordingly. Once we become aware of our shortcomings, we can start to address them!
