I hope newcomers to data science find this (and all the other resources on Towards Data Science and the web) useful. The most difficult part about entering a field is learning the vocabulary. It can be frustrating when you don’t understand what anyone is talking about, but once you realize the concepts are much simpler than the names suggest, then it’s not so intimidating. Once you can understand the basic language of data science, then you can get started with specific techniques and applications!
